The End is Near

What a day!  An early start on some really back road.  Michelle did a great job in route planning.  While the roads were rough, they were very safe and very direct (more direct than Rte 13).  On one 20 mile section of the ride, we only saw 2 cars.  It was also very windy out of the North-west.  Between the rough road and the wind, the going was slow.  Yesterday I was traveling at 18+ miles per hour; today it was more like 14 mph.  That made for a long day.  We had a quick stop at the Nemours Clinic in Seaford and saw John Hollis and Sue at the clinic.  I decided to push on about 20 miles further, to Harrington.  Another day of just shy of 100 miles.

We are at a Holiday Inn Express...only the best for Michelle.

We will need to plan our route for tomorrow, but I am hopeful it is about 80 miles.  Ideally, we will be arriving at AIDHC at noon or so...but I know to expect the unexpected.

Okay, so here is something weird I have been saving....

At the beginning of this journey, I was told to expect the unexpected and not to get frustrated when the unexpected occurs.  The bike shop told me I should take 2 extra tires, 8 extra tubes.  I have all kinds of medical supplies.   I was ready for the unexpected and any problem that could be presented.  Well Day One ended and we had no problems...so that meant that I needed to do everything on Day 2, the same as Day 1.  I wore the same clothes, same morning ritual, same drink mixtures in the water bottles, etc.  Then, Day 2 had no problems...so Day 3 had to be the same as Day 2.  You get the picture.  It is now the end of Day 8...no problems and I have worn the same clothing (washed each night) and done the same ritual.  One more day with the same ritual.  Hope I did not jinx me.

I appreciate everyone's support and the responses suggesting routes for tomorrow.

See you soon

Steve, What a wonderful gift to give your daughter to ride those 900 miles in her honor! I wish you great weather, boundless energy, and good spirits tomorrow as you finish the final stretch of your journey. Nemours is a fantastic, life-saving institution full of the best and brightest caregivers! Both of my children have had the benefit of their care and we are so grateful to them. Congratulations to Katie on her 21st birthday, and may she have 100 more!!
