Reflection... what's next?

So here are some of the things I have thought about since finishing the ride.  These comments relate to things that I thought a lot about while in the saddle.  They relate to my role as a leader, a lawyer, a friend, a colleague, a father, a husband and a human being.  I hope you will take the time to ponder these items and pass on those to your friends that you think have any relevance.  I would also ask that you check back to the blog in the next couple of weeks so you can see what I am planning next.

Thanks again for the support

Items for reflection

1.  When you set your mind to doing something, anything is possible.
2.  Everyone has the ability each day to choose to make a positive difference in someone else's life.  So why don't we each and every day commit to make a difference.  I would encourage you to do little things that show people that you care.  We all have the ability to inspire others to be better human beings
3.  Purpose is one of the most important thing in our lives.  Find your purpose and follow it with passion.
4.  Without family and friends life would not be very meaningful.  Appreciate your family and friends and make sure that they know that you appreciate them.  The support that I got from from family and friends was truly remarkable and I very much appreciate it
5.  Team is very important.  No one creates success alone.  To create true and lasting success you must nurture and invest in the people around you.  The biggest bonus of my bike ride was that as a consequence of my lack of planning, Michelle's role became more critical.  She worked as hard and as long as I did, albeit a different sort of work.  "My ride" turned into "our ride" because of the remarkable effort my teammate Michelle put forth.  It was quite a bonding experience and I am awfully lucky to have such a great teammate.
6.  Leadership is not just about what you do, but what you can inspire, encourage and empower others to do. The role of great ledership is not to get other people to follow you, but instead to empower others to lead
7.  Terry Leahy, the former CEO of Tesco, has said there are 4 things people want at work:
                a.  A job that is interesting
                b.  Be treated with respect
                c.  A chance to develop as a human being
                d.  A boss that is some kind of help and not their biggest problem.
As simple as that seems, I think Mr. Leahy is right.
8.  Be thankful for all of the blessings that you have.  Rather than looking at what you don't have, focus on what you do have.  Be positive.
Check back in a couple of weeks to see what is next.

Thanks for the words of wisdom, Steve. This ride is another turning point in your life, another milestone, and it seems as though you are focusing on the power of the lessons learned over those long days of riding. We look forward to your continuing journey.
